Processing Payments Online with Authorize.NET or USA ePay

To process payments online you need a Merchant Account from bank. Bank of America seems to offer the Lion's share of merchant accounts used in mail order and online processing where the credit card is not present to be swiped by a credit card reader. In addition to the merchant account you need a payment gateway like Authorie.net or USA ePay.

A Merchant Acount... Allows you to accept credit card payments from customers. Some merchant accounts are restricted to only taking credit cards manually when swiped or typed in, other merchant accounts are geared or granted the ability to take mail orders or be processed online usually at a marginally higher rate for the additional risk of fraud since the buyer is not physically present.

First you need to sets a banking relationship to transfer funds from your customer’s account to your account. That is the merchant account part that allows money to flow into your account.

Two kinds of merchant accounts...

You must have an Internet/MOTO account to process online orders. An “in-store” (POS) account cannot be used for online sales.

Note: Visa, Master Card and other cards charge a % of each sale. That cost is included in the fees you pay for your merchant account.
